People are showing an increased awareness towards having their own alternative power for generating electricity and are also looking to reduce their carbon footprint and minumize the environmental affects created by using carbon based energy sources. Wind power can help one achieve this results.
Individual wind power systems can be utilized to produce part of the power requirements of a house for numerous purposes which includes creating energy for small electrical devices where a power grid connection is not feasible. Individual electricial generation systems can be made as standalone or grid connected. The energy output from a standalone wind turbine can be used directly or stored. However, with grid connected systems the excess electricity created will be transfered to a shared electricial grid system.
Wind Turbines
The cost of wind turbines are major factors when exploring the economics to installation and useage of wind power. There are several different parts needed to have a wind turbine installed in order to capture the power of the wind. The cost factors are generally determined by the tower height required, generator size needed and rotor diameters. Generally speaking, you are harnessing the energy needed for the wind to spin the rotor blades.
Companies are constantly investing in new technologies for wind turbines. Different styles are tested for durability, performance, and efficiency. Wind turbine companies are expanding on a global scale. Notably wind turbines are in all most every country of the world today. Researchers are hoping that goverment funded wind farms will be every where feasible in the United States. With these wind farms not only will it help out the economy by using a natural energy source, but will also allow companies to advance the technology of wind turbines even further. Wind power can be an alternate source of energy for our generation, as well as generations to come.
